DIY Word Art

I have this friend.

She likes Madonna.

She {my friend and Madonna} has {have} style.

She came up with a GREAT idea inspired by this print:

She thought this would be really cool if we could do a print with...
WHAT WOULD MADONNA DO?

I was stewing over it for QUITE a while. Started it, by getting the frame out. And even started a little bit of the word art file.... but, I just never got around to completing it. {Uggghhh I hate that when that happens!}

So, with some encouragement from a few friends and a Blog Party to brag about my completed project.... I went to work.... and created this:

DIY Word Art
The process was very simple. And, it cost me only $1.50!

1. Recycle Old Frames

This frame was from Ikea and I had used it for something else in the past. It was just sitting in my storage unit gathering dust.

2. Spray Paint Old Frames

I used a glossy white for this frame.

3. Create Word Art in a Software Program

I typically just go for something I know. Nothing fancy. So, I used PowerPoint. I just changed the background color for each color option shown above. Then inserted text and symbols as desired.

4. Save as PDF Files and Print

Easy-peasy. Saved each background as a separate pdf file, for example: "WWMD-pink".

I took my files to FedEx Kinko's to be printed in color on cardstock. It just looked a lot more vibrant having them do it verses my inkjet colored printer. This is where the only money came in {unless you need to buy spray paint}.

I used 8x10 photo frames, so I had them printed on standard paper/cardstock size and I just trimmed as needed.

5. Hang and ENJOY!

And now.... for the even more exciting part?!

FREE Word Art Printables
Cuz, I am TOTALLY nice that way!

I was on such a roll after I completed the WWMD? Word Art....

So.... I created another one for my friend who recently had a baby.
This was the friend I hosted the Baby Shower for in our Double-Wide in the Sky.
Therefore, I used the color theme from the shower.
And since I had left-over spray paint from the Spray Painted Plastic Animals...
I used it on the picture frame. Brilliant! Hah!

Now, I haven't given her the gift yet.... I hope I didn't just ruin the surprise!

  3. Those colors printed so vibrantly! I only recently discovered the awesomeness in taking your jump drive and printing your files at UPS, FedEx, etc.. For some reason I used to think that was only for people printing in mass quantities. I will definitely be printing there again. Now I'm off to read about those spray painted animals that caught my eye :-)
